Hitler was born in a quiet town near the German border

  AS A CHILD I PLAYED IN THE HOUSE IN WHICH HITLER AND HIS GENERALS PLANED WAR IN MUNICH.  IT WAS A GRAND HOUSE WITH HUGE CATHEDRAL RAFTERS.  MY GIRLFRIEND'S FATHER WAS AN AMERICAN GENERAL.  IN THE DINNING ROOM WAS THE LARGEST TABLE I HAD EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE, LONG AND MAGNIFICENT.  THE GENERAL HAD HUNG A ROPE SWING FROM THE RAFTERS AND USED TO SWING US OVER THAT TABLE WHERE HITLER AND HIS MINIONS ONCE SAT.  I WILL NEVER FORGET IT.  WHEN I SAW THIS STORY BELOW IT REMINDED ME OF THAT HOUSE.  WHERE HITLER PLANNED WAR BECAME MY PLAYGROUND.      GANDALF
  The sale of Adolf Hitler's family home in the Austrian town of Braunau am Inn has triggered concern that it could become a shrine for Nazi sympathisers. The unassuming house where Hitler was born in 1889 has been put on the market priced at 2.2m euros (£1.9m; $3.3m). Residents and local politicians fear that the property could fall into the hands of far-right extremists.
Braunau's mayor Gerhard Skiba wants to prevent that happening, but the council does not have the funds to buy it.
The building is currently used by an organisation helping the disabled and has at various times in its history housed a library, bank and technical institute. Some historians have suggested turning the building into a museum.
However Mr Skiba vigorously opposes the idea, saying it would encourage people from all over the world to visit the site.
For the time being, the only reminder of the building's infamous past is a small memorial dedicated to the victims of the Nazis.

Were the ancestors of modern Europeans the local hunter-gatherers who assimilated farming practices from neighboring cultures, or were they farmers who migrated from the Near East in the early Neolithic? By analyzing ancient hunter-gatherer skeletal DNA from 2300 to 13,400 B.C.E. Bramanti et al. (p. 137, published online 3 September) investigated the genetic relationship of European Ice Age hunter-gatherers, the first farmers of Europe, and modern Europeans. The results reject the hypothesis of direct continuity between hunter-gatherers and early farmers and between hunter-gatherers and modern Europeans. Major parts of central and northern Europe were colonized by incoming farmers 7500 years ago, who were not descended from the resident hunter-gatherers. Thus, migration rather than cultural diffusion was the driver of farming communities in Europe.

Mimicking Caloric Restriction

The extended life span and resistance to age-related diseases in animals exposed to caloric restriction has focused attention on the biochemical mechanisms that produce these effects. Selman et al. (p. 140; see the Perspective by Kaeberlein and Kapahi) explored the role of the mammalian ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 (S6K1), which regulates protein translation and cellular energy metabolism. Female knockout mice lacking expression of S6K1 showed characteristics of animals exposed to caloric restriction, including improved health and increased longevity. The beneficial effects included reduced fat mass in spite of increased food intake. To exploit carbon nanotubes fully in electronic applications, one needs to be able to separate or synthesize either all semiconducting or all metallic tubes. However, unbiased synthesis conditions produce a mixture containing two-thirds semiconducting tubes and one-third metallic tubes. Harutyunyan et al. (p. 116) show that altering the carrier gas and temperature, in combination with oxidative and reductive species during the synthesis process modifies the catalyst particles during synthesis, which leads to the selective growth of metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes. Thus, the shape and morphology of the catalyst seeds can be tuned to grow carbon nanotubes of a specific chirality.

Friedman, an author, country music singer and humorist who finished fourth with 12.4 percent of the vote in 2006 as an independent candidate for governor, earlier this month announced his plans to seek the Democratic nomination....

Friedman said he would create the Timothy Cole Commission to establish guilt or innocence in honor of Cole, who was convicted of a rape he did not commit in 1986 and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Cole died of an asthma attack in 1999 while in prison, but was posthumously exonerated by a state judge earlier this year after DNA evidence cleared his name.

The court noted that the witness's credibility was "fatally impeached by her ever-increasing number of self-admitted perjurious statements" and that, had the diary been available to defense attorneys, her "credibility would have not only been impeached, but severely undermined." Cole's family frustrated by lack of pardon

Frustrated family members of Texas' first posthumous exoneration held out hope that the state could pardon a Fort Worth man discovered innocent almost 10 years after he died in prison.A proposed constitutional amendment giving the governor authority to pardon Timothy Brian Cole became one of the myriad casualties of a partisan fight over voter identification legislation. Texas law does not specify whether a person needs to be alive to receive a pardon. TABC officer arrested for sexual assault

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission agent has been arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault, and one count of official oppression.

On Tuesday, 40-year-old Agent Joe Chavez, Jr. was arrested and taken to the Bastrop County Jail and is currently being held on a $225,000 bond for an alleged sexual assault during a minor sting operation in May. The criminal investigation is being conducted by the Bastrop County Sheriff's office and the Texas Rangers.

Of all the bands playing that pleasant night in Austin, there was one guitar I heard that that drew me into a small building and up to the stage. There was my old friend and I marveled, how could those short stubby fingers play so well. Jessie Taylor, Joe Ely (Back - Joe Ely ) and the late Robert Marquam (former drummer) and I go way back. If you do not know who Jessie "guitar" Taylor is google him, for he was one of the worlds finest guitar players. Now for the record I do believe Robert Marquam was murdered and any information one might have of on this subject, I would like to hear from you. Gandalf

West Texas has always been a breeding ground for great guitar players, and Jesse Taylor and John Reed are living proof of that. When Jesse told me that he and John were doing an album with Nokie Edwards, it was as if a certain destiny had been fulfilled. Great musicians find each other, plain and simple. When I heard the record, I was once again, taken far away to that place I had visited years before on the dusty Lubbock day.
Call it Paradise or call it Heaven.
Either way, you too, will be taken to that place.
